Milne; established three distinct reputations: as an essayist and light verse writer, as a playwright, and as the author of four famous children's books; Milne's most successful piece of adult fiction was a detective story, The Red House Mystery (1922). It was much admired and much translated. His other novels were Two People (1931), Four Days' Wonder (1933), and Chloe Marr (1946); died, after a long illness, at his home, Cotchford Farm, near Hartfield, Sussex, on 31 January 1956)
